At our studio on Watling Street in Hockliffe, just outside Leighton Buzzard. Most people looking at this level of European furniture end up driving to a London showroom to see it. We display it here in Bedfordshire, alongside the kitchens and interiors it will sit next to, which is usually more useful than seeing a sofa in isolation on a shop floor.
Leolux and Pode from the Netherlands, Peressini Casa and Bontempi from Italy. Between them they cover sofas, modular seating, armchairs, dining tables, dining chairs and occasional pieces. These are not brands you find on a high street: they are made to order in Europe and configured for the room they are going into.
Leolux is one of the Netherlands' largest high-end furniture brands, established in 1934, producing sofas, armchairs and tables designed by internationally recognised designers and built with a very long lifespan in mind. All of its furniture is still made in Venlo, and every piece is highly customisable, which is why the brand suits people who want something specific rather than something available.
You configure it. These pieces are made to order with extensive options across models, fabrics, leathers, finishes and configurations, so a modular sofa can be built to the exact run of your wall rather than left with a gap at one end. Full fabric, leather, metal and wood samples are available to see and handle, which matters far more than a photograph when you are choosing something you will live with for fifteen years.
It varies enormously by model, size and material. As a real reference point, Leolux sofas at UK retail sit roughly between £2,550 and £6,590 depending on the configuration, with larger modular arrangements and premium leathers going higher. Dining tables and chairs are priced separately. We quote against the exact configuration you choose rather than a starting-from figure that bears no relation to what you end up ordering.
Because nothing is held in stock, the piece is built after you order it and then shipped from the Netherlands or Italy. Typical lead times for made-to-order upholstery sit in the range of ten weeks or so, and can extend if a particular fabric is not immediately available at the mill. If you are coordinating furniture with a building project, this is worth ordering early rather than at the end.
This is a genuine problem with large European sofas and it is better solved before you order than on delivery day. We check access at the point of specification: door widths, stairwell turns, ceiling heights on landings, and whether the piece can come apart. Modular designs are often the answer in older properties, because they arrive as sections and are assembled in the room. In a Victorian terrace with a tight staircase, that difference decides which models are even possible.
The honest answer is that it depends on how long you keep it. These pieces are developed with an extremely long lifespan in mind, with frames built from solid wood or metal and high-quality foam cushioning designed to hold shape and support over time. A high street sofa often needs replacing in five to seven years as the cushions collapse. If you replace twice in that period, the maths closes considerably. If you like changing your interior often, a cheaper sofa is the more sensible purchase and we would say so.
Yes, and this is the main reason people buy furniture from us rather than from a furniture-only retailer. Because we are also designing the kitchen, the flooring and often the wider interior, we are choosing the dining table against the actual worktop and floor finish rather than against a swatch. Getting the tone of a timber table right next to a specific floor is difficult to do from separate showrooms.
We deliver and place it in the room, assembled and positioned, rather than leaving boxes in a hallway. Because the pieces are large and often modular, assembly happens in situ. If the furniture is part of a wider project we schedule it against the rest of the work so it is not sitting in a room that is still being finished.
